Publisher's Synopsis

Wordsworth Classics' new 'Best of' series enables you to buy a collection of the key works of the finest authors at an unbeatable price.

Joseph Conrad was born in 1857, to Polish parents in Ukraine. At the age of 16, he began a sea-faring career in the French and British merchant marines, a path he continued on for a further sixteen years. During this time he rose in rank and became a British citizen and travelled around the world - he visited exotic places such as: India; Singapore; Australia and Africa which helped to fuel his later writing career. He was able to write short stories and novels such as Lord Jim, Heart of Darkness and The Secret Agent by drawing heavily from his own experiences of being in remote places. These books, like the author himself, whom had previously attempted to commit suicide, deal with both moral conflict and the dark side of human nature. Conrad died of a heart attack in England in 1924, aged 66.

This collection contains: - Almayer's Folly & The Rover; Heart of Darkness & Other Stories; Lord Jim; Nostromo; Secret Agent; Selected Short Stories; Three Sea Stories
