Publisher's Synopsis

In 1997 the go-ahead was given for the restoration of San Francisco's historic civic center. As part of that plan, the Asian Art Museum would move into a landmark 1916 building designed by George W. Kelham. Architect Gae Aulenti took on the project of retaining the building's historic qualities while bringing in bold new elements.
