To gather together the old and exhibit it as a yardstick of taste, was part of the incentive, for extensive public lecture itinerary demanded examples that could be commended. In consequence many of these rugs were secured for lecture purposes and retained as such, regardless of inducements to sell. Some are well known from coast to coast.
Most of the rugs included are genuinely antique, some only antique in manner, and a very few candidly modern, but none are in the modern popular style. The scarcity of large carpets in such an assortment will not occasion surprise; large antique rugs are today almost unattainable. In substitution is Offered a large variety of those long and narrow native Persian rugs of high quality of art, that find more and more favor for use in groups of three and four for the paneling of the ?oors of large rooms. If walls are most artistic when paneled, and the charm of gar dens the result of balanced plots, surely the use of several well-proportioned rugs in large rooms must create equal delight. By reason of repeated motives they can easily and effectively be reduced in Size to meet many requirements. Far better a rug of merit, altered and adapted to use, than a Stupid rug intact.
