Bookseller Notes

A collection of early Romantic poetry, edited by Southey, with contributions from most of his early circle. Coleridge is the main contributor, after Southey himself, with some twenty-seven poems (some previously unpublished). Other featured poets included Humphry Davy, Lamb, Robert Lovell, Charles Lloyd, and Amelia Opie. Many of the poems are unsigned, but their authors are largely known from notes in Southey's own copy (Harvard) and from Coleridge's (Yale). A third volume was advertised but never published.

Description

FIRST EDITION, 2 volumes as 1, leaf B8 in volume I excised as usual to remove Southey's 'War Poem', because of an alleged want of patriotism, C3 in volume II a cancel to correct the omission of a word in his 'The Battle of Blenheim'; the odd mark but a very good copy, 2 vols. pp. [8], 300; [6], 299, [1], small 8vo, contemporary half green morocco and marbled boards, flat spine ruled and lettered gilt; sometime rebacked and recornered, headband chipped, joints tender and the boards rather rubbed, good
