The star is angry. It has lashed. out and wiped clean the surface of the nearest planet. Its surface is a mass of twisted magnetic field lines, twisted into tight bundles spread across its burning face; even these look angry, they should not look like that. The call is in response to this sun's anger which threatens the population of two planets, each occupied by a different race. But that is not the biggest problem, there is something very wrong as the Galactic Trader discovers when it is almost destroyed as it approaches only to be invaded when it enters orbit around the sun.
It is up to Captain Virginia Stoll and the other Commanders to sort out what is happening if they are going to free their great ship and help the inhabitants of these planets. Captain Stoll is put in great danger when contacting the residents of the second planet who prove they cannot be trusted while seeming to be part of the sun's anger. The residents of the third planet also do not know who it is that has sent that call for help but are fearful of what is happening to the sun.
As the mystery deepens, Virginia learns about a special scientist from the third planet who has disappeared. He is one who rises above all the others in intellect and inventiveness, but does not fit among his own people, he is different, he is a savant.
