Cecil Roth, the author of The House of Nasi; Dona Gracia, is one of the foremost Jewish historians of the present day. He has a score of books to his credit, among the more recent of them being The History of the Jews in Italy, The Jewish Contribution to Civiliza tion. Cecil Roth was president of the Jewish Historical Society of England from 1936 to 1938. Since 1939, he has been Reader in Post Biblical Jewish studies in Oxford.
