JD took it from Travis and held it up to his right eye as if trying to see something in it. First, he smelled it and sneezed. Then he wiped off the dust and licked it.
"Ew!" he shouted, almost dropping the smooth rock.
"Keep your voice down JD," reprimanded Travis. "What did you expect, ice cream?"
JD stared at him puzzled and asked, "Ice cream? What is that?"
"You know, ice cream. It's cold and soft and tastes good," explained Travis as he took back the rock and moved it around in his hand. JD sat down cross-legged with the forest on one side and the clearing on the other. He thought about Travis's explanation of ice cream. Travis sat down too and went through a similar examination of the smooth purple rock like JD, except he didn't lick it. It was large, about the size of a can of spray paint, but surprisingly light.
"So, this ice cream is cold and soft? Is it like a snuffle plump?" questioned the orange skinned space boy.
"Snuffy, what's it?" questioned Travis.
JD thought of how to explain a snuffle plump to Travis, but every time he opened his mouth to say something, the only thing he could think of was, cold, soft and tastes good. Travis waited a second for an explanation, but seeing that JD was lost for words, he went back to looking at the glass like rock. He held it up looking through it to the moons in the sky and sat pondering. A large Opalian cruiser blasted out of sight in the distance. This grabbed JD's attention.
"Hurry up now. We must move soon. Plus, I am hungry," JD said.
"Well, the rock color looks like the color of that moon over there, but that's all I see. There are no buttons, no writing, and no manual on how this thing works," responded Travis.
"I have it!" cried out the blue-eyed Jinxler.
"You figured it out?" inquired Bedford.
"Yes! A snuffle plump is not only cold, soft and tastes good, but sometimes sleeps in a cone shaped snoodle! I saw a snoodle on Earth above a shop near the tree I fell into. I bet they had snuffle plumps there!"
Geez, thought Travis, he can't stay focused for one minute.
