Publisher's Synopsis

Thailand is a country in transition. It is rapidly moving from an agriculture-based economy to an industrial one, aided by a rich endowment of natural resources and an enterprising population. This study of the natural resources of Thailand - its land, water, forests, minerals, fisheries, and the impact of man's activities on the environment - conducted by the Thailand Development Research Institute, came amid fears that the unnecessary destruction and deterioration of the resource base is rapidly leading to the erosion of sustainable yields in the consumption of Thailand's natural resources. By bringing together the issues of the management of Thailand's natural resources as well as past and present trends in the consumption of these resources, the 15 local contributors provide an example to other countries facing similar problems similar to Thailand's in managing resources and conserving the environment.
