Publisher's Synopsis
A new virtual reality game is launched with a live demonstration, but excitement turns to terror when players find they are trapped and must avoid being killed at all costs, because that means death in the real world too.
Gaming has advanced considerably, and to promote the newest innovations in virtual reality, the biggest entertainment company on the planet is launching a new game, on a brand-new console, in a brand-new state-of-the-art eSports arena with a live demonstration. Through an online gaming competition, a group of the best non-professional gamers have been gathered together to experience this revolutionary new technology in front of a live audience, and will be broadcast online for the world to see. It's the golden ticket of its time, and amongst the lucky winners is Marcus Gordon, a shy 21-year-old, used to playing home alone with the safety of a screen between himself and the action. When the reality of the game becomes too much for most players to handle, the pioneering AI technology begins to make some unexpected changes to keep the game in play and prevent all remaining gamers from leaving. Played out in front of the entire world, those that die in the game start to die for real! Chaos and panic ensue on both planes, as event organisers attempt to regain control of the situation by hiding the truth, causing tensions to rise amongst the spectators being kept in the dark, to the point of rioting, as the long-awaited event completely falls apart. Whilst the creators of the game, and a fellow gamer in the arena try to figure out a solution. And caught in the middle of it all are the gamers fighting to stay alive long enough to establish some way out whilst being pursued by ever-evolving creatures of terror created by an advanced technology that controls the unknown world they inhabit.
