Publisher's Synopsis
One day in 1887, a normal-looking young woman began to act strangely. Her name was Nellie Brown and she had just arrived at a boarding house for ladies. On her first night, she decided that she was not going to sleep and that she was going to stay awake until the next day. Such behavior caught the attention of her employer, who alerted the authorities and they determined that Nellie was totally insane. The next morning, the awakened Nellie ended up on Blackwell Island, a terrible psychiatric facility in New York where women lived in cramped and pitiful conditions. Thus begins the ordeal of the crazy patient Nellie Brown.
