Publisher's Synopsis

This research is oriented to understand the meanings of the pedagogical practices of the physical education class constructed by teachers and students in an educational institution in Medellin. It follows the logic of qualitative research and the particularist ethnographic approach that brought into play the voices of the teachers and students; the information was collected through participant observation, interviews and workshops; the analysis was carried out under open and axial coding in the categories of motivations, methodology and meanings. In the motivations for the teachers there are personal issues such as the pleasure of teaching and job stability, and for the students there is the pleasure of playing games and sports, as well as being physically well; in the methodology, planning, teaching-learning strategies and evaluation are highlighted; and regarding meanings, it is highlighted by the teachers that they teach what they are and therefore favor the integral development of the students, who consider that the class implies exercising the body, learning how to take care of the physical body, the mind, health and to strengthen their emotions.
