Publisher's Synopsis
This work develops skills in teaching first language literacy and second language English. The focus is on helping learners develop skills to communicate and learn in different contexts. Three theoretical approaches to language and literacy education are presented: the skills-based view, the social practices view, and the critical or transformative view. The implications of the three theories for teaching practice are discussed in relation to how the positive aspects of each can be integrated.
