Set in Portland, Oregon during George W. Bush's Reign of Error, Tamanous Cooley revolves around environmental activist Amanda Laszlow. She is part of the Northwest Conservancy, an organization fighting a huge legal battle against NOG Biotics, a corporation attempting to seize a sensitive wetland to use as a dumping site. NOG's corporate lawyer is Eldon Littlejohn, nominally a member of the Yakama Indian Nation - and Amanda's ex-lover. After an abortive suicide attempt following a major legal setback in the Conservancy's fight for the environment, Amanda starts having a series of strange experiences in which she finds herself in parallel worlds or other dimensions - and each time, Amanda discovers clues that may help save the Tyee Wetland - but the knowledge may be much more than she bargained for....
