Publisher's Synopsis

For over eighty years Dr. William H. Hunter lived in upstate South Carolina. For over fifty of those years he practiced medicine and became a leader in state and national political issues, often but not always involving public health. Along the way he crossed paths with such figures as Senators Strom Thurmond and Barry Goldwater, as well as Presidents Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. Dr. Hunter was also a man deeply in touch with his Southern roots and the history of his region, a man with roots in the Old South but very much a man of the New. For almost twenty years he shared his reflections on medicine, politics, his own and his region's life experiences and life in general as a Sunday columnist of the Anderson Independent-Mail. This book is a compilation of some of his best, together telling the story of the times in which he lived, the history he saw firsthand (sometimes as a prime mover), and what he thought it all meant for the future.
