Jamie McPherson was a rich banker, well liked, happy with his wife Grace, his partner Chick and six children, two of whom were married but still lived at home. He was content until the man on the appaloosa arrived and asked for Jubal McCalister and handed him a notice of death. Grant McCalister, his pa, had died. Grace, Chick and Jamie went to the funeral and when it was completed, they rode to their ranch. It was deserted and everyone had been kidnapped.
