After standing in the queue for about fifteen minutes, it was her turn to buy the ticket. The sales girl at the counter of the transport company, "The Young Shall Grow Motors Ltd'" asked her what is your name; She answered Chinaza. The Sales girl asked again, now in a heavy and almost in a fit of anger.
Chinaza what? Chinana Ike, she replied in a somewhat agitated voice.
When Nkechi who was lost in the Television she was watching, heard their conversation. She sprang up and rushed to the counter to help Chinaza in the purchase of her bus ticket. In a cool and matured voice Nkechi Instructed Chinaza to hand over the transport fare with her to the sales girl.
Nkechi then gave the sales girl, her address and phone number, which she wrote on the space provided on the ticket. The sales girl, then counted the money tore the ticket along the perforated lines, and handed over the original and the triplicate to Chinaza while retaining the duplicate.
Nkechi collected the ticket from her, read it and handed it over to Chinaza with the instruction.
When they left the counter, they discovered that somebody has taken their seat. They now moved further down the waiting hall, where they found another vacant seat, and also could watch the Television from that point. While they sat down, Nkechi continued with the watching of Television, while Chinaza was lost in her thought.
It is true, she is going to Lagos. This Lagos she has been hearing and watching on the Television will be her new abode, Chinaza was thinking. At least, they said, it is just six hours from Onitsha. As she was told there is a lot of money in Lagos, everybody there is very rich, drives fine cars and lives in fine houses.
