Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on January 19, 1946, in a one-room cabin on the banks of the Little Pigeon River in Pittman Center, Tennessee.
Dolly Parton has written over 3,000 songs, including "I Will Always Love you," "Jolene," "Coat of Many Colors," and "9 to 5", which was a two-time country chart-topper as well as an international pop smash for Whitney Houston.
Her first album "Hello, I'm Dolly" was released in 1967, and it was a tremendous hit for the rest of the 1960s, both as a solo artist and in a series of duet records with Porter Wagoner.
She is also one of a small handful of people who have gotten at least one nomination for an Academy Award, Grammy Award, Tony Award, or Emmy Award. In 1999, Parton was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
