A lone Bounty Hunter named Cadell has been hiding from the ugly shadow of his past and from Jacko, the man who had dedicated his life to finding and killing him. So when his old friend and mentor, Salis, dangles a bounty in front of him that will get him an Ascendency pardon and take Jacko off his trail forever, Cadell is ready to take it on. How hard can it be? Find a girl that the Ascendency wants and all if forgiven... But Jacko is already on his trail, and he and Trix barely make it off-planet alive. Things go downhill from there as he finds every Bounty Hunter in the galaxy converging on the same planet to look for a lost ship - another hidden treasure the Ascendency is paying top dollar for. Not that it matters to Cadell. His target is an Etcheon girl - the sole survivor of a telepathic race the Ascendency supposedly irradicated. Find her and all will be forgiven. You're one of us...The girl's telepathic voice echoes through Cadell's mind as he pursues her. Is it true? Is he an Etcheon? Is that the reason for his strange bond with Trix? Suddenly, his path is not so clear. Friends and enemies become less certain, and as the Ascendency closes in with Jacko in the lead, Cadell is rapidly running out of time to claim his pardon.
