Publisher's Synopsis

This text suggests that he most logical approach in developing systems and system interfaces is to begin with the interface itself and involve the potential users: to work inwards from the interface towards the application, establishing the necessary system functions and information requirements from the user perspective. In order to be effective, the prototying tools must also be coupled with an effective design methodology which will provide the basis for design decisions, manage the design process, and address the quality assurance process (such as ISO 9000).;The interface designer must consider a broad range of various design factors (of an organizational, environmental, task-related and human nature) in the process of developing usable interactive computer interfaces. Identifying these design variables is a necessary precondition to the design realization phase of development.;This book is intended to provide an introduction to some of these broader design factors, in addition to the more classical design aspects of user interface design.;Eric Wagner has worked for Ontario Research Foundation, Canada and ABB Automation, Vasteras, Sweden, where he was involved in the design of MMC equipment and interface design for industrial process control. He has also worked for RTG AB, Vasteras, in the area of user-interface design and prototyping, equipment and control-room design and methodology development, and is presently working with Ul Design AB, Linkoping, Sweden.
