Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Swedish Holsteins in America, From 1644 to 1892: Comprising Many Letters and Biographical Matter Relating to John Hughes, the "Stamp Officer," and Friend of Franklin

Few of the older members of the family will recall the fact that this Family His tory was commenced some years ago, and when nearly ready for the press was put aside, thinking it would never be published. But at the solicitation of some of the descendants it was again taken in hand, when the whole labor had to be repeated. How Slow and tedious such matter is only those who have been engaged in similar work can judge.

Such as it is, with all its imperfections, I commend it to the kindly favor of the descendants of the worthies whose memory I have tried to preserve. In some few families it was impossible to obtain correct information of ancestors or child ren. These branches must therefore be imperfect.

This may be but the beginning of what some one of the race may in later time continue, and still gather up and blend together the scattered threads of Family History, making of it a full, harmonious record.
