Publisher's Synopsis

A young man from an isolated hollow of Appalachia struggles to overcome his parents cultural resistance to education and the reality of poverty to fulfill a childhood dream of a university education. This book narrates his struggles with the overwhelming odds he fought to achieve his dream and conquer his personal conflicts. His lack of confidence and his inability to meet the necessary financial needs were compounded by the constant emotional struggle with his father over his passion to achieve this seemingly impossible dream. After suffering devastating combat injuries in the Korean War and extensive surgical recovery, and without the benefit of the required high school diploma, he found himself enrolled in a major Midwestern university. Early in his university experience he was led to put his faith and trust in Jesus Christ. This book narrates the story of how he achieved his dream and became one of the top aerospace manufacturing engineers in the country and a successful businessman. You will be inspired as you read the story of a victorious and rewarding life based on his trust in the wisdom of God to direct his actions. The author was born in one of the many isolated hollows of Appalachia, the third of 12 children of a coal miner who did not sympathize with his son's dream of a university education. He received his engineering degree from The Ohio State University at the age of 29 and worked for several years in our country's space program. He is retired and lives in Mooresville, North Carolina with his wife Becky. He has made mission trips to Germany and Sri Lanka and is presently involved in volunteer disaster recovery work in the hurricane ravaged coastal area of Mississippi.
