Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Subsidy and for the County of Worcester: Edited for the Worcestershire Historical Society

The occasion of the aid of 1346 was the knighting of Edward the Black Prince, and the need for it arose through the necessity of finding money to prosecute the war with France, declared on May 26, 1345. As well as being levied contrary to the statute of 1340, it was raised at double the amount fixed by the Statute of Westminster, at 4os. From each knight's fee instead of 203.
