Publisher's Synopsis
The work to be presented in this book entitled "Studies of Fluorine" is divided into seven sections which can be summarised as under. Section-1 deals with the properties and history of fluorine; Section-2 covers Applications of Fluorine; Section-3 gives the list of Fluorinating Drugs available in market; Section-4 describes the water Fluoridation; Section-6 cover the Toxicity of Fluoride and Section-7 different available Fluorinating reagents for the synthesis of Organofluorine compounds. The introduction of fluorine into bioactive molecules often results in significant changes in their chemical, physical, and biological properties. Fluorine uniquely affects the property of organic molecules due to the fluorine atom's blocking effect in metabolic transformations and mimicking of enzyme substrates, and then increases the molecular lipophilicity to enhance bioavailability. Approximately 30% of all agrochemicals and 20% of all pharmaceuticals contain fluorine. Therefore, fluorinating reagents are useful tools for the synthesis of pharmaceutical and agricultural compounds.
