Publisher's Synopsis
This book was written to give the public a better understanding of strokes, what is happening inside the head that is causing loss of functions including speech, swallowing, paralysis of appendages and even malfunction of one or both eyes. Strokes can happen suddenly and the best chance for recovery are to get the affected person to the hospital as fast as possible. Do not panic. Seeing a healthy person deteriorate before your eyes from a walking, talking, laughing human being to a person unable to speak, to move, to stand up, or even be partially or completely unconscious is not only frightening to you but to the victim as well. Call for help, then try to get them comfortable. Assure them that help is on the way. They can hear you but they usually can't talk other than make noises that don't sound like words. The good news is that the majority of stroke victims make partial or full recovery. Inside are true stories. The last story is about my personal friend Steve Hatch with a disturbing ending.
