Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Strictures on the Letter of J. K. L: Entitled a Vindication of the Religious and Civil Principles of the Irish Catholics; Addressed to His Excellency the Marquis Wellesley, K. G. Lord Lieutenant General, and General Governor of Ireland, &C. &C

Since the commencement of this discussion of the Hohenlohe miracles, I observe that Protestants in general deny all supernatural interposition. On this point I did not at first form any judgment, nor will I yet take upon me to decide. If they can all be accounted for without the interference of the devil, it does not affect my opinion, nor my argument'. Still, I must contend, that the church mer which reigns the man of sin, must be supported by the miracles of Satan. If this is not the case, the Scriptures are not true. On the other hand the vs ord of God declares, that the devil will exert his power against the truth, by raising up and supporting a riial to the true church by counterfeit miracles, then every authenticated instance oi supernatural interposition in favour of false doctrine, is a decisive proof of the truth of Christianity.
