In appearing before this audience to deliver a lecture on the subject of Strategy, I confess to a feel ing of considerable embarrassment; for not only is it a matter of great diflic ulty to compress within the limits of a single lecture a subject which would te quire many volumes for its proper elucidation, but there are many officers present who are so familiar with the subject that I feel that I am carrying coals to Newcastle, or at least relating a twice told tale. The best I can hope to do is to present well-known facts in a new grouping, so as to bring out in strong relief in your minds principles with which you are already familiar.
