Publisher's Synopsis
This text results from the workshop, Strategies for the Development of Fat-Tail Sheep in the Near East. The workshop's aims was to exchange experiences in research. The Near East has more than 242 million head of sheep, most of which are fat-tail breeds. People in the Near East exalt fat-tail sheep because of the quality of lamb and mutton they produce. However, few countries have made serious and concerted efforts to improve their sheep, in particular with respect to the rapid socioeconomic changes which are taking place. Therefore, the workshop aimed at exploring means to benefit the development of the sheep industry in this region.
