Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Strange Incidents in Mexico, Hawaii, and the United States
Since my earliest recollections of youthful days on the Brazos River in Washington County, Texas, there has never been a year during which I did not incur some accident which I cannot forget. My venturesome disposition led me frequently into grief. Many times I have been seriously injured by runaway horses, maddened cattle and vicious dogs. I have almost constantly carried some part of my anatomy in a sling, or under bandages or splints of some kind. Three times I have been rendered unconscious by accidents. Before I had reached the age of 21 I had been twice stabbed and three times shot accidently, and at this writing I am on crutches, the result of an automobile acci d'ent.
I have had a broken arm, a fractured cheek, a dislocated wrist, a sprained ankle and a broken heart, from the latter of which I have never recovered.
