Publisher's Synopsis
This memoir began as a year long history of the men of second platoon, K Company, Third Bn, Third Marines. As I began researching the individuals including their present whereabouts, my goal evolved. During a trip to Louisville, Kentucky, the hometown of our platoon sergeant, I could find very little about him other than that he had been killed in Vietnam. It hurt to realize that his sacrifice had gone almost unnoticed in his home while the death of another Louisville native received national and even international attention. This is not to say that I begrudge the attention paid to Mohamed Ali. Rather, because he didn't die for the sake of others as Sgt. Dorris did, more should have been said about this Marine. He was the epitome of a Marine NCO and an American.
