In the shadows of the night. Stoat meets his friend Snake. Snake gives Stoat a description he has heard of a fierce monster, who has come to live in their woods. Later, Stoat meets his friend Bear. And Stoat's customary confusion with words causes him to give Bear a different description altogether. However, Bear too has heard about the monster. And, along with Stoat's portrayal. Bear conjures up in his mind a fearsome looking creature. And so it goes on, as Stoat meets each of his friends in turn. But who is this creature? And is there more than one fierce monster, lurking in the woods? Read on to find out... The story is part picture book and part prose.
