The State Guide of Age of Majority Laws sets forth the legal age in which a person is considered an adult. Currently, the age of majority is 18 in 47 states; 19 in two states; and 21 in two states. The guide also includes exceptions under which persons who are less than the age of majority may be treated as adults or engage in certain transactions, such as participating in academic research and purchasing a motor vehicle.
