Starting Skills in English Vocabulary and Grammar Part A Teacher's Book Starting Skills in English is specially designed for false beginners and remedial learners. It is divided into two parts, A and B. Students can enter the course at A or B level. Each part provides at least 150 hours' tuition. The whole course, therefore, provides at least 300 hours' tuition. There are three books in each part: Listening and Speaking , Reading and Writing , Vocabulary and Grammar . It is assumed that most users of the course will teach the books in this order, although it is not essential. The majority of the material in the third book, Vocabulary and Grammar , could be set as self-study. Starting Skills in English Vocabulary and Grammar : In Part A students learn how to use 200 key words in isolation and context from the following knowledge areas: Education Daily Life Work and Business Science and Nature The Physical World Culture and Civilization Technology Art and Literature Sports and Leisure Nutrition and Health Students will also learn to: Vocabulary: forming letter shapes; reading and writing numbers; saying letter names; using adjectives; using alphabetical order; using any in questions and negatives; using capitals and lower case; using frequency adverb phrases; using noun phrases with apposition; using past time phrases; using present participles and gerunds; and using uncountable nouns. Grammar: using SV (O) (A) patterns where: S = simple noun phrases/pronoun V = be in simple present or simple past/other verbs in simple present, present continuous or simple past/modal can or other verb O = noun/pronoun A = prepositional phrase. This material is aimed at students with an IELTS level of 2.0.
