The death of Naomi's father should be the happiest day of her life. But when she prepares to finally flee her small Missouri town, a run-in with a new neighbor, Clara, makes Naomi reconsider leaving. As she grows closer to Clara, and reconnects with her estranged younger brother, Aaron, she thinks maybe she can nurture a newfound peace in a place that never felt like home.
However, Clara's controlling husband and town marshal, as well as a force much more ancient and insidious, threaten to break the new ties that bind her there.
