STAGGERWING is a historical novel based upon the 1936 cross-country air race flown from New York to Los Angeles in one day. The race is an important part of aviation history, principally because in this race the women challenged the men in the most macho and dangerous sport of the time. The setting for STAGGERWING is a combination of thrilling air racing of the 1930's, nostalgic Hollywood flying movies with flaming crashes and dare-devil stunts, and polo ponies with wealthy riders charging at break-neck speed up and down the manicured playing field.
