II. Die Darstellungsform, der Ort und die Zeit des Gespräches.
Die Darstellungsform, deren sich Platon im Staate bedient, ist die diegematische oder indirekte, d. B. Ein Gespräch wird seinem Hergangs nach erzählt. Die Rolle des Erzählenden ist dem Sokrates zugewiesen, der an diesen Verhandlungen den Hauptanteil hatte. Möglich, dafs damit Platon an eine seiner Eigentümlichkeiten an knüpfte; liebte er es doch bekanntlich die Entwicklung eines Gs dankens in die Form einer Unterredung einzuklsiden. Erzählt soll das Gespräch sein einen Tag, nachdem es gehalten war. Über die Zuhörer des Sokrates erfahren wir aus dem Staate selbst nichts.
