Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from St. Thomas of Canterbury: A Dramatic Poem
Impartial estimate of that great man than had for some time been common, the change is due, not to any theological bias in his favour, but to a more accurate acquaintance with the facts and the philosophy of history. I shall endeavour to illus trate, rather in their language than my own, a few of the chief characteristics of Becket's time that throw a light upon the memorable career which I have ventured to dramatise.
