Publisher's Synopsis
Eleven papers from a colloquium that followed a successful exhibition held in Paderborn in 1999 on the art and culture of the city during the Carolingian period. The contributors reflect on new archaeological and documentary evidence that throws light on Paderborn and other centres within the Palatinate Rhineland between the 8th and 10th centuries. The papers include broad studies of the political and cultural character of the region as well as analyses of specific people, buildings and excavations.
