Publisher's Synopsis

Spelling Words with Double Vowels? It's a breeze! Is the latest updated version of this A4 sized workbook written by an experienced tutor and assessor of children with Dyslexia. It is designed to help children learn the variable double vowel spellings that are used to code differing sounds. This is complex because the same double vowels may adopt differing sounds depending on the meaning of the word. The letters 'ow' sound as 'O' in the word 'throw' but as 'ou' in 'ouch!' in the word 'now'. And that is before 'homophones' come into it, these are words that sound the same but are spelt differently; 'heir' and 'air' being an example. And 'homographs' are words that are spelt in the same way but are sounded out differently such as: 'wound' as in: 'he had a deep wound in his leg' and 'I wound up the clock.' The book introduces the student to words sharing the same double vowel spelling and sound, using imagery and sentence fill-ins. Homophones and homographs are flagged up, as they appear. This book which evolved out of necessity, simultaneously builds the students verbal lexicon and comprehension skill alongside spelling accuracy. Given a good review in its first edition in 2014, in the Patoss bulletin, it was given a 5 star rating in its last version, prior to this one, on Amazon in 2016. Best suited to children from aged 8 - 13, can be used alone or with the guidance of schools, parents, carers or tutors.
