This work provides a number of perspectives on special education, by recognized experts in the various fields, following the passing of the Education Reform Act. None of the contributors foresees a rosy future for special education in the light of the National Curriculum.;The book attempts to do two things. The first few chapters provide reflections on the present climate of education in this area in the light of the recent history of the development of provision for pupils with special educational needs. The includes the 1981 Education Act which transformed the legal framework for thinking about special educational needs. Issues relevant to certain groups of children are then taken up in more detail in subsequent chapters with some emphasis being given to integration and the future for these children. A final chapter turns again to the 1988 Act and looks at the problems that this Act presents for the development of provision.
