Inscribed by Sidney Webb on the flyleaf of Volume 1, to 'Sir Samuel and Lady Wilson, in kindly remembrance of our association, 1929-31'. Wilson had been Permanent Under-Secretary to L.S. Amery, by whom he was posted to East Africa - continuing under Amery's replacement as Secretary of State for the Colonies, naemly Webb, in the years mentioned.A photograph of the Webbs is laid down to the front pastedown.Second, expanded editions of the Webbs' last major work, a vast study of Soviet Union communism. This edition includes over one hundred additional pages, covering the promulgation of the 1936 Constitution, the 'treason trials', and the Stakhanov movement. The dustjackets carry the praise of Harold Laski, J.M. Keynes, and George Bernard Shaw.
