South Africa's recent Bill of Rights has already started to exert an influence on the criminal justice system. This third edition of the text attempts to determine to what extent these principles reflect or contradict the fundamental rights and freedoms embodied in South Africa's Constitution.;New sections have also been included that cover: the escalation of family violence; the treatment of the mentally ill person; and the changing attitudes to voluntary euthanasia. Other sections have been revised and updated with references to cases available at the end of June 1996 as well as legislative changes that occurred prior to December 1996. All references to the Constitution are to the Constitution of 1996.
