Bookseller Notes

The 'Uncontrolled note' in ESTC queries 'Full text not published?' We can't find any trace of a larger piece, The Charity Boy, of the period. The play itself was unfavourably reviewed in the Sporting Magazine, Volume 9, No. L, pp. 72-73, and no doubt that is why it was not printed - but some hope was held out for the songs apparently. The penultimate chorus is O'Whiskey's:'Och! I've seen many lands that they've talked of so much / To be sure they were all mighty clever, / But my own little country is still the non-such, / Great Britain and Ireland forever.'
