Society, Economy and Religion in Late Medieval Castile - Variorum Collected Studies Series

In these articles Professor MacKay approaches the history of later medieval Spain from a number of widely differing angles - from the standpoint of monetary history to the analysis of frontier ballads and prophetic literature; from the plight of Andalusian conversa prostitutes in Rome, to the diagnosis of the medical condition of Henry IV of Castile, with all its dynastic implications. Despite the variety of subjects discussed, however, the articles are all closely inter-connected, and combine to build up a stimulating picture of life and society in the kingdom of Castile. One particular theme is the evaluation of economic, social and religious factors behind the riots, the anti-Semitism and the pogroms that formed so prominent a feature of Castilian history in the 15th century.
