Miranda is a working class girl who's chosen for a photography scholarship to a snooty private school far from home. She feels out of place until she starts dating Leo, a fun but mysterious student with super-human knowledge.
Unfortunately, Leo is not what he pretends to be and modern-day Earth is a made-up story.
While doing research, Miranda finds an original photo of a girl from the 1880s. She is perplexed to see a modern electric light reflected in the girl's eyes. When she shows the strange photo to Leo, he acts guilty, as if he knows a secret about the image.
The next day, the photo is stolen from her bag and her research partner is murdered. When she confronts Leo, he says she's found a clue to the biggest hoax in history.
Arrogant extraterrestrials control the university and most of the earth and are brainwashing people to believe lies about each other.
Miranda doesn't trust Leo, but can't help falling in love with him. If only she can stay alive long enough to discover the truth.
