Publisher's Synopsis
Small Town Hero focuses on Samuel L. Terry, Sheriff of Milledgeville and Baldwin County, Georgia, from 1907-1926, and in the process takes the reader to that time/place. This story of the law enforcement officer provides a lens on daily life, social standards, and concerns at play in a time when prohibition and civil rights made the news. The author is Sheriff Terry's great-granddaughter and a retired North Carolina high school teacher. Joan Terry Williams Lafleur never knew this grandfather, but drew on family sources and newspaper archives to build a clear sense of the customs and daily life of that particular time/place.
