During the night the chief informed his band of the determina tion of the white hunter, and when Snowden took his departure for the north next morning, the whole village assembled to bid him godspeed, in their simple yet emphatic way, upon what they conceived to be a most desperate undertaking. They beat their rude drums, danced up and down and sang their wildest songs until the hunter was lost both to sight and hearing.
