The world is partitioned into many lands and the societal differences between them are strictly enforced by the ruling Shenn. Baronne, a banishee in Skandia finally finds work but struggles to be accepted by his fellow workers until he meets Ragga, a powerful, militant woman. Together they become unlikely heroes, leading a revolt against the punishing working conditions imposed by the Shenn and their strange aristocracy of overseers.
Skandia is a story of love and courage against hardship and cruelty, hope against political intrigue and cynicism. Will the citizens of harsh Skandia succeed and perhaps even inspire other, very different lands to follow their example and rise up against the Shenn?
