A serial killer is on the loose, attacking college students and leaving a trail of brutally raped and tortured victims behind. Detectives Marc Cabellera and John O'Farrell are on the case, and they discover that each victim had received flowers from the murderer-flowers with loving, hidden messages. They need to figure out who is committing these murders...and why. While Cabellera is solving murders, he's also adjusting to caring for the eight-year-old deaf twins he just inherited when his sister passed away. Between taking American Sign Language classes to learn to communicate with them, caring for them, and doing the difficult job of a detective, there's very little time left for anything else. But that doesn't stop Marc from becoming enamored with his ASL instructor, the lovely Jasmine Finn. Jasmine believes her life is very fulfilling. She has her work, her friends, and a loving family. What more could she need? Then, she meets Detective Cabellera and the recently orphaned twins. The children melt her heart...but their drop-dead-gorgeous uncle nearly stops it. Jasmine is doing her best to avoid Marc, as a relationship, for her, simply isn't in the cards. As the detectives find themselves in a battle of wits desperately trying to decode cryptic messages left by the killer, Marc discovers a disturbing connection among the murder victims. And that connection puts Jasmine squarely in the killer's sights. Will they catch the sadistic murderer? Or will Jasmine be the next victim?
