Two years ago, Dion Perides lost his little brother, Theos, in a car wreck. The accident did not only steal Theos; Dion was in the car, too, and he almost lost his own life. Despite the passage of time, Dion hasn't truly healed. Physically, he is weakened and still recovering from injury. He mourns the loss of his brother and feels a sense of guilt. But he does his best to carry on as part of the lucrative Perides family business. He's running the successful Melbourne office when he comes across a newspaper photo of his father holding an infant child. Dion realizes Theos must have had a son-Dion's nephew, Alexander. He is driven to connect with his lost brother's child, but there is a problem: Alexander's mother, Terri, wants her son to have nothing to do with the Perides family fortune-and possibly nothing to do with his uncle Dion. Terri is a strong, independent woman, and soon Dion finds her brush-offs strangely alluring. He's charmed by her resolve, and he longs for the possibility of friendship. In some way, Dion feels his closeness to her brings him closer to Theos. However, nothing is simple. Terri has a past-a dark secret that threatens her life, her son, and Dion's hope to find a connection to the little brother he lost.
