Publisher's Synopsis
Iowa needs a "Death with Dignity" law. People are slowly dying from horrible illnesses often becoming completely bedridden, not able to talk or swallow, and in excruciating pain. This books tells about my experience caring for friends and family whose deaths I have witnessed. Your mind is the last thing to shut down, your body may have started disintegrating weeks before death, you may be too weak to swallow or no longer able to digest nutrients so you are starving. Your lungs may be slowly filling up with fluids but you no longer have the strength to cough or to swallow. Without a State-approved "Death With Dignity" act in place, you do not have the legal right to set the date when you have had enough, when your quality of life is so horrible that you would prefer to end it legally. Please help pass Iowa legislation similar to Oregon to allow us to cause our own death legally while we still have some dignity in our life.
